Got to spend my birthday in court.

Hadda listen to ALL the lawyer-repped cases BEFORE they started getting down to us plain miscreants.

The one trial they had was pretty neat (I've never seen one of THOSE in person before), but I wanna know just WHY the guy that smacked around his ex-wife's bf got less of a fine than I did.

Justice? Justass.

Oh, what did I do? Went around some crossing gates. Fast. Train was coming (maybe) fast, too.

Prolly saved ten minutes. The cop had me stopped for a good twenty, so that's double the time I saved. Then, the court eats up three whole hours (PLUS the forty minutes total commute), so it all adds up to four whole hours - like 24x the time I saved.

Which probably adds up to ALL the time I've EVER saved zipping around ALL the crossing gates I've ever encountered in my whole life.

So, I'll console myself that it's been a wash ('cept the one-sixty in court costs - which MIGHT add up to a dollar a go-thru. heh, heh, heh).

OTOH, wife took me for lunch to one of my favorite eateries, for my favorite steak. 8-]

No cake, tho. 8-[

But, on the whole, it was a good day. Nice'n'sunny.

Had a really good day, today.

Spent the largest portion of the day with a special friend, and spend the evening getting soused with other friends! Damned if I can figure out why sitting around in the clubhouse's bar guzzling lousy American brewskis with other ancients is so soul-redeeming, but damnit!, it IS, IT IS!!!

I was again marveling at how the mind works. Five or six years ago, I began experiencing memory lapses. This worried me little bit, but nowhere near as much as it would have worried me were they occurring when I was in my forties or younger. It's just something that seems to come as you get older. I didn't like this, because I've always prided myself on my intellect, and it seemed to me that memories and the intellect inseparably go hand-in-hand (mind-in-mind?). Maybe not, because my mind is still pretty sharp, although it does tend to dull up as the day goes on.

The problem(?) has worsened since my heart took a dive and they've got me a dozen pharmaceuticals a day.

What I have found, though, is that there is a somewhat mysterious silver lining in the clouds of forgetfulness: bad times seem ages ago and good times seem to last longer.

Is this some sort of physiological occurrence? Or is it psychological? Or both? Or neither?

It matters little, since there appears to be nothing that can be done about it. I don't know that I'd care to DO something about it, even if a solution were presented.
